Customers flock to book flights in first flydubai sale
flydubai, Dubai’s first low cost airline, has seen flight bookings rocket in the first 24 hours of the flydubai sale
Tuesday, June 23, 2009 — flydubai, Dubai’s first low cost airline, has seen flight bookings rocket in the first 24 hours of the flydubai sale.
At midnight last night, just 24 hours after the sale began, flydubai was recording sales of more than 6,000 seats.
Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai said: “We are surprised and very pleased by the number of bookings in the first night of the first flydubai sale. For bookings to have reached more than 6,000 between midnight on Sunday and midnight last night is quite incredible.
“What is particularly pleasing is that so far we are seeing a very even split between the sectors that are being booked, with 44% of all bookings being for flights coming in to Dubai.
“We have also seen a huge increase in the number of bookings on flights that are not included in the sale, which would suggest that people have been attracted to the site to book the special offer prices, but are finding that even our full price fares are so reasonable that they are tempted to book.”
The first flydubai sale went live at 23.59pm on Sunday, June 21 and will run until Tuesday, June 30 at 23.59, subject to availability. There are still thousands of tickets available and customers can book via the website, www.flydubai.com, the call centre, +9714 3010800 and through selected travel agents.
Sale prices are available on all routes to which flydubai currently operates, Beirut, Amman, Damascus and Alexandria and prices start from just AED125. flydubai’s prices always include all taxes and one piece of hand baggage weighing up to 10kg.
The flydubai sale will be a regular occurrence and is part of the airline’s commitment to bringing affordable, accessible travel to a wider range of people, thereby encouraging more people to travel to more destinations more often.
The flydubai model is simple, with customers paying only for the services they want to receive. The ticket price includes all taxes and one piece of hand baggage, weighing up to 10kg, per passenger.
Passengers have the option to purchase checked-in baggage in advance at just AED40 for the first piece and AED100 for the second, weighing up to 32kgs, subject to availability. Checked baggage at the airport is also strictly subject to availability and passengers are advised to book online early to secure the space, as only pre-purchased baggage can be guaranteed.
A nominal payment of AED5 allows customers to select their seat and just AED50 secures the extra legroom positions. Bookings can be changed for a small fee, plus any difference in the fare, and food and drink can be purchased on board.
flydubai operates from a modernised and enhanced Terminal 2 on the north side of Dubai International Airport.
