flydubai announces long term logistics partnership
flydubai has signed a deal with Danzas AEI Emirates
Wednesday, November 18, 2009 — flydubai, Dubai’s first low cost carrier, has signed a deal with Danzas AEI Emirates, a joint venture between Al Tayer Group and DHL, a subsidiary of Deutsche Post, the world’s largest logistics group.
The role for Danzas is to coordinate all flydubai’s logistics requirements from transporting undercarriage spare parts to delivering new seating and stairways. Danzas has facilities in Dubai Cargo Village, Dubai Airport Free Zone, Jebel Ali Free Zone, Dubai Investment Park and Sharjah, and provides transport by ocean, road and air as well as warehousing and distribution services.

Gregory John Trilford, Head of Aerospace and Aviation, DHL Global Forwarding EMA, said that Danzas already has a strong association with the aviation industry in Dubai and both parties are looking for the benefits of a long term arrangement. “Partnering with flydubai is going to be extremely rewarding for us both. This is very much a ‘strengthen and support’ exercise where we can take care of the non-core aspects of the flydubai business and help the airline maintain its growth and reach its targets. 50 aircraft over the next few years is going to raise a lot of logistics questions and we are here to provide the solutions.”
flydubai has taken delivery of five aircraft and begun commercial flights to eight destinations in five months, making it one of the fastest growing start-up airlines in the world. The airline’s sixth aircraft is due to be delivered in December.
flydubai was set up by the government of Dubai in March 2008 with a start up capital of AED 250m. The airline began commercial operations on 1st of June, 2009 with flights to the Lebanese capital, Beirut. Since then flydubai has begun flights to a further seven destinations, Amman, Alexandria, Aleppo, Damascus, Djibouti, Doha and Khartoum. Flights to flydubai’s ninth destination, Baku, begin on Friday, November 20.
flydubai operates from a modernised and enhanced Terminal 2 on the north side of Dubai International Airport.
