Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 11 October 2024: flydubai, the Dubai-based carrier, celebrates its second anniversary of operations to Samarkand in Uzbekistan.
flydubai began operations to the Uzbek market in March 2019 with direct flights to the capital, Tashkent. The carrier launched its second destination in the country with flights to the historic city of Samarkand on 20 September 2022. Over the last few years, flydubai has carried more than 680,000 passengers between Dubai and Uzbekistan.
flydubai currently operates twice-daily flights to the capital Tashkent and three-times weekly flights to Samarkand, offering passengers from Uzbekistan with convenient connections to Jeddah, Madinah, Riyadh and other destinations through Dubai’s aviation hub.
Situated at the heart of the ancient Silk Road, the famous ancient trade route linking China to the Mediterranean, Uzbekistan is renowned for its breathtaking historical architecture including magnificent mosques and madrasas. Tashkent is one of the largest cities in Central Asia and is known for its rich culture, architecture and flavourful cuisine. Samarkand, renowned for its Islamic architecture, is only a few hours from the capital and is home to several UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These include the Registan Square with its mosques and madrasas, the Bibi Khanym Mosque, the Shah-i-Zinda necropolis, the Gur-e-Amir Complex and the Ulugbek Observatory.
Ghaith Al Ghaith, Chief Executive Officer at flydubai, said: “we started operations to Uzbekistan in 2019 with the launch of flights to Tashkent and further expanded our operations in the country with flights to the historic city of Samarkand. This has offered our passengers from the UAE and the region a variety of travel options, particularly to destinations that previously did not have direct air links to Dubai.”
“flydubai flights play a pivotal role in strengthening the longstanding bilateral relations between the UAE and Uzbekistan in various commercial, tourism and cultural fields, encouraging many people to visit this beautiful country. Famous for its rich history and traditions, Uzbekistan has offered UAE citizens and residents visa facilitations which have contributed to increasing demand for tourism,” added Al Ghaith.
Flights to Tashkent and Samarkand depart from Terminal 3 at Dubai International (DXB). Emirates codeshare on these routes, offering passengers convenient and reliable travel options via Dubai’s aviation hub.
Today, flydubai’s network covers more than 125 destinations in 55 countries served by a fleet of 88 Boeing 737 aircraft. flydubai’s network in Central Asia has grown to eight destinations.
