flydubai launches first direct flight from Volgograd to Dubai

flydubai becomes the first airline to provide direct air links

flydubai has started its first direct flight to Volgograd offering its residents the option of travelling to Dubai in just over 4 hours.

Flight FZ975 took off at 2250hrs on Tuesday 17 September from Terminal 2 of Dubai International Airport and arrived in Volgograd on Wednesday 18 September at 0300hrs local time. The aircraft was greeted by a water cannon salute.

With the addition of Volgograd, flydubai now operates to six destinations in Russia and 65 destinations across its network. The new route to Dubai means that Volgograd is now connected to Dubai International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world, providing the city with access to over 200 destinations around the world.

Commenting on the start of its operations to its newest destination in Russia, flydubai’s Chief Executive Officer, Ghaith Al Ghaith, said: “Volgograd is steeped in history and culture and this new air link will provide the opportunity for tourists based in the countries across our network, to visit this legendary city.  We are pleased to be the first carrier to establish direct air links to Dubai.”

“This year, flydubai has doubled its presence in Russia and we welcome Volgograd to our network. We remain focused on opening up previously undeserved markets and connecting them to Dubai,” added Ghaith Al Ghaith.

CEO of Volgograd International Airport, Alexander Golovin, stated: “We are delighted to welcome flydubai to Volgograd International Airport.  The start of their flights will contribute to the development of our airport and open up flydubai’s network of traditionally popular leisure destinations to Volgograd’s residents.”

flydubai commenced its operations to Russia in October 2010. Samara and Yekaterinburg, flydubai’s first Russian destinations, were launched in 2010 with operations to Kazan and Ufa following in 2011. Earlier this year, flydubai commenced flights from Dubai to Mineralnye Vody. Krasnodar and Rostov-on-Don will join the network by the end of next month.

Residents of the Volgograd region will now be able to travel directly to Dubai to experience its luxury hotels and shopping malls; world famous restaurants, the tallest man-made structure in the world, the skyscraper Burj Khalifa as well as its clean beaches and desert landscapes.

flydubai has a network of more than 65 destinations. The airline’s network covers more than 30 countries in the Middle East, Africa, the Subcontinent, Central Asia, Russia, Ukraine, Southern and Eastern Europe.
