Sunday, April 25, 2010 — flydubai, Dubai’s first low cost airline, has scored a hat trick of new route announcements with the news today that the airline will begin flights to the Syrian city, Latakia, in June.
Latakia will be flydubai’s third Syrian destination, after Damascus and Aleppo, and is the fifth new route to be announced by the airline this month.
The four weekly service will begin on Sunday, June 20 and will take the airline’s network to 18 destinations. Prices for Latakia will be the same as the prices which were introduced to Damascus and Aleppo last summer. A one way fare including all taxes and charges and one piece of hand luggage, starts from AED 350.
Ghaith Al Ghaith, flydubai’s CEO said: “Adding Latakia to our existing routes of Damascus and Aleppo, demonstrates the importance of Syria as a key destination to flydubai. Thanks to flydubai, Dubai’s growing Syrian expatriate population and the 500,000-strong community in Latakia now have even better access to quality, safe and low-cost air travel.”
Latakia is Syria's busiest and most modern seaport located to the south west of the urban centre of Aleppo and has been an important trading and agricultural hub since ancient times, known for its tobacco, cotton and fruit exports.
The city is also increasingly gaining a reputation as a first-class tourism destination, thanks to its pristine beaches, picturesque mountains and rich archaeological heritage.
FZ233 to Latakia will depart from Dubai at 1130hrs and land at 1400hrs local time. FZ234 returns at 1510hrs local time and reaches Dubai at 1930hrs.
Bookings are now open and flights can be purchased on flydubai’s website (flydubai.com), through the call centre (04 301 0800) and from travel agents.
The flydubai model is simple, with customers paying only for the services they want to receive. The ticket price includes all taxes and one piece of hand baggage, weighing up to 10kg, per passenger.
Passengers have the option to purchase checked-in baggage in advance at just AED60 for the first piece and AED150 for the second, weighing up to 32kgs, subject to availability. Checked baggage at the airport is also strictly subject to availability and passengers are advised to book online early to secure the space, as only pre-purchased baggage can be guaranteed.
A nominal payment of AED5 allows customers to select their seat and just AED100 secures the extra legroom positions. Bookings can be changed for a small fee, plus any difference in the fare, and food and drink can be purchased on board.
flydubai operates from a modernised and enhanced Terminal 2 on the north side of Dubai International Airport.
