flydubai scores a hatrick of routes in Egypt with the launch of flights to Assiut

flydubai, Dubai’s first low cost airline, landed in Assiut early this morning, marking the start of operations to its third Egyptian destination and sixteenth route overall.

FZ181 took off from Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 2 at 0030hrs and made its inaugural landing in the ancient city of Assiut at 0315hrs local time this morning.

One of the oldest and largest towns in Upper Egypt, Assiut will now be connected to Dubai and beyond with flydubai’s thrice weekly service. Dubai’s budget carrier also began flights to Luxor last week, further strengthening the airline’s network within Egypt.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai said: “Egypt is a very important market for flydubai and developing our network within this growing economy is an important part of our overall objective to offer safe, low cost and quality air travel throughout the region and to better serve the travelling public.”

“Considered the geographical center of Egypt, Assiut is thriving with several urban development projects underway, including the Qena road project, construction of over 3000 residential units and a mega energy project. flydubai’s service to Assiut will complement this growth by offering direct links to the UAE and beyond.”

“In addition, this magnificent city has plenty to offer tourists, making it an ideal short break destination,” Al Ghaith added.

Assiut is known for its agriculture, especially with strong trade in grain and cotton. It is also home to one of the country’s largest universities. Steeped in heritage, Assiut was founded in the Pharaonic era and is located 400km south of Cairo.

Priced from just AED350 for a one-way fare including all taxes, flights to Assiut can be purchased on flydubai’s website (www.flydubai.com), through the call centre (+9714 3010800) and from travel agents.

Flights to Assiut operate three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. FZ181 departs Dubai at 0030hrs arriving at 0315hrs local time and the return flight, FZ 182, takes off from Assiut Airport at 0400hrs arriving in Dubai at 0835hrs local time.

The flydubai model is simple, with customers paying only for the services they want to receive. The ticket price includes all taxes and one piece of hand baggage, weighing up to 10kg, per passenger.

Passengers have the option to purchase checked-in baggage in advance at just AED60 for the first piece and AED150 for the second, weighing up to 32kgs, subject to availability.  Checked baggage at the airport is also strictly subject to availability and passengers are advised to book online early to secure the space, as only pre-purchased baggage can be guaranteed.

A nominal payment of AED5 allows customers to select their seat and just AED100 secures the extra legroom positions. Bookings can be changed for a small fee, plus any difference in the fare, and food and drink can be purchased on board.

flydubai operates from a modernised and enhanced Terminal 2 on the north side of Dubai International Airport.
