flydubai’s eighth aircraft touches down in Dubai

flydubai’s newest Boeing NG 737-800 touched down at Dubai International Airport Terminal 2

flydubai’s newest Boeing NG 737-800 touched down at Dubai International Airport Terminal 2 last night, marking yet another on-time aircraft delivery for Dubai’s first low cost airline.

This is the eighth brand new Boeing Next-Generation 737-800 flydubai has received in just 11 months of operations, underlining its position as one of the world’s fastest growing carriers. The new aircraft will immediately enter service on Monday, May 17, when it makes flydubai’s inaugural flight to Kabul.

Two days later – on Wednesday, May 19 – it will begin flydubai’s new service to Luxor, the airline’s fifteenth destination.

flydubai CEO Ghaith Al Ghaith said: “Taking delivery of our eighth aircraft in less than one year of operations is an impressive milestone, and a testament to the planning and hard work of the entire team.”

“The fact that we are investing in a growing fleet of brand new planes shows our commitment to maintaining quality and the highest standards of safety and reliability. Our newest 737 will fit seamlessly into our expanding network of services across the region.”

He said: “flydubai’s ninth 737 arrives in June and we remain on course to have a fleet of 13 aircraft by the end of 2010.”

Earlier this year, flydubai became the first airline in the world to receive a Boeing 737-800NG equipped with Goodrich Corporation (NYSE: GR) DURACARB® carbon brakes. flydubai’s eighth aircraft has the same pioneering technology and Goodrich will supply wheels and carbon braking equipment for flydubai’s entire fleet of more than 50 aircraft.

The flydubai Boeing NG737-800 has a capacity of 189 passengers and can cruise at an altitude of between 35,000 and 41,000 feet.

flydubai already operates seven aircraft on 13 routes: Beirut, Lebanon; Amman, Jordan; Damascus and Aleppo in Syria; Alexandria, Egypt; Djibouti, East Africa; Doha, Qatar; Baku, Azerbaijan; Khartoum, Sudan; Manama, Bahrain; Kathmandu, Nepal; Muscat, Oman; and Kuwait City.

flydubai will soon start flights to Assiut and Luxor in Egypt; to Istanbul, Turkey; Kabul, Afghanistan; Latakia, Syria; Karachi, Pakistan; and Lucknow in India.
